dirt cake
Ingredients:
- 1 package (20oz) Oreo cookies
- 1 package cream (8oz) cheese, softened
- 4 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 c powdered sugar
- 2 packages (5.1oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3.5 c whole milk
- 12oz carton whipped topping, thawed
- gummy worms (we use about 1 cup of worms)
Instructions:
- Place Oreos in a food processor or blender and completely crush Oreos until crumbled (it will look like dirt). Depending on the size of your food processor or blender, you may need to crush the Oreos in batches. Set aside the Oreo dirt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar with a mixer.
- In a separate bowl, add the pudding mixes and milk. Mix until fully blended to a pudding consistency. With a rubber spatula, fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture. Then, fold in the whipped topping.
- In your container of choice, layer the pudding mixture and Oreo dirt. First, add a layer of crumbs to the bottom of the container, then add a layer of pudding (this is easiest with a rubber spatula) and repeat alternating layers until the container is full. Be sure to end with a layer of crumbs on top.
- For the gummy worms, we like to add a few gummy worms on top of each of layer of pudding so they are “buried” and add a few worms to the top crumb layer. However, this part is personal preference and you can just add the worms to the top layer or not add any at all.
- Chill the dirt cake for several hours or overnight before serving.
Enjoy!
*There are many container options for serving your dirt cake. We usually use a large glass bowl and like to look at the layers. Another fun option is a flower pot or small bucket to play up the dirt aspect. If you are traveling with it, a disposable foil container works great too.
*This recipe is from my friend’s family. They served it all the time when we visited their house – we thought it was the best treat!
